
Jeanine Serrano started swimming
competitively at age nine in Pennsylvania
with FAST (Franklin Area Swim Team). After
moving to Oregon, she completed her
competitive swimming at Tigard
High School, where she
earned varsity letters all four years and competed in Cross Country and Track,
as well.
Jeanine graduated from the University of Oregon
in 1985 with a Bachelors degree in Economics.
While in college, Jeanine took up competitive fencing, which she
continued for several years after graduation reaching the National level before
retiring from the sport.
Jeanine began her coaching career as the
Assistant Coach for the Tigard Aquatic Club in 1988. The club was renamed the Tigard Tualatin
Swim Club in 1997 and Jeanine was named the Head Age Group in 2000. Jeanine has been with the program for 20
years and has produced numerous age group state champions and “Top 16”
swimmers. In 2002 Jeanine was named
Oregon Swimming “Age Group Coach of the Year”.
In 1993 she added an Assistant coaching
position with Tualatin
High School, which she
continued for 7 years before becoming the Head Coach for the program in
2000. During her tenure as Head Coach
the Tualatin High School Girl’s teams have placed in the “Top 3” at the State Meet
six times and the Boy’s teams have placed “Top 3” at the State Meet three
times. Her teams have produced six
individual State Champions, and several All American Relays and Individuals.
At the USA Swimming Local Swim Committee
(LSC) level Jeanine has served as the LSC Safety Chair since 1995, was
Technical Planning Chairman (1997-1999), and the Oregon All Star and Zone Team
Manager (2003- present) and (1993-1996).
In 2007 she received the “USA Swimming Outstanding Service Award for
Oregon Swimming” and in 1995 the “James R Richardson Award” for outstanding
long-term contribution to the Sport of Aquatics in Oregon Swimming.
In addition to her coaching
responsibilities, Jeanine has worked full time for the Tigard
Tualatin School
District as Morning Supervisor at the Tigard Swim
Center teaching “Life
guarding”, swim lessons and water exercise for 21 years. Jeanine was a speaker at the Oregon Swim
Coaches Association Fall Clinics in 2005 and 2006, and a speaker at the ASCA
“Legends of Texas Swim Clinic” in April of 2008. She has been asked to speak at the ASCA
World Swim Coaches Clinic in September of 2008.
